The boys’ volleyball team won the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Division-I (D-I) championship tournament last year and this year the team hopes to continue on success.

Although the team has been plagued by injuries, they have achieved a record of 26-5 (4-2) and are on their way to repeating as conference champions.

"As always, we look to contend for the SPC title," said Keith Nannie, Boys’ Varsity Volleyball Head Coach.  "Although we’ve lost to St. John’s School and Trinity Valley School, we have also defeated each of them multiple times.  We are definitely one of the favorites, and we’ll have an additional advantage - the SPC tournament is at Greenhill this fall."

Despite the loss of many of its players, the team has persevered.

Looking to bounce back from a defeat by The Hockaday School in last year’s Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Division I (D-I) championship game, the girls’ volleyball team is anticipating another trip to the finals, but hopes for different results when the Nov. 5-6 tournament starts.

The team acknowledged that the disappointing loss to Hockaday in the finals last year serves as a motivational tool for this season.

It also helps keep everyone inspired as the team prepares to go into the SPC tournament.

"The loss last year has definitely motivated us this year," said junior Olivia Nicolais. "Losing last year makes it that much more important to win the SPC championship, and we are working harder than ever."

Sophomore Karina Rambeau said she is confident in the team’s chances at the title.

Karina’s optimism is supported by the team’s success this season, as they are 15-3 (4-1) as of Oct. 29.

The Greenhill boys’ varsity volleyball team, coming off a Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Division I championship victory last year, is determined to continue the trend this season.

Despite having a few players out due to injury, as well as the loss of five graduated seniors, the team is still enjoying success with a 20-2 (0-0) record as of Oct. 2, despite only having sophomores and juniors on the team.

Junior Adam Masood said he thinks winning SPC last year has contributed to this year’s nearly undefeated season.

The girls’ varsity volleyball team has started its season with a 9-4 (1-1) record and high expectations for the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) championships.

“We were a little nervous going into the season after losing four starting seniors last year, but our season has turned out to be a very pleasant surprise,” said senior captain Michelle Quina.

Despite half of the team being underclassmen, the team has exceeded expectations and has entered the season with great enthusiasm.
