With the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival and the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) North Zone meet behind it, the varsity cross country team can look forward to the most important contest on its schedule, the SPC championship meet.

The team uses meets like the Chile Pepper Festival to prepare for that final event of the season and said it believes that it gained a lot of valuable experience from the Oct. 17 trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"Arkansas gave the whole team a great chance to see how we did on a flatter course and served as a great confidence booster," said junior Eriq Robinson. "As athletes, having the confidence in what you do is essential for you to do it."

As the fall sports season wraps up, junior Chelsey Sveinsson said she looks forward to what the season still has left to offer. She has two big races remaining: the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) championships and the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championship. Chelsey is looking for repeat victories after winning in both last year.

Chelsey has been running for Greenhill since it was first offered to her, in seventh grade, and she said she has loved it every step of the way. Chelsey is a very motivated runner with a very high final goal for her career: to run in the Olympic games.

"Running is where my heart is at," Chelsey said. "I would love to run in the Olympics, especially 2012, because it is at my mom’s homeland, England."

Gillian Glengarry, Chelsey’s mother and Fitness Center Director, said she believes that reaching the Olympics is a very realistic goal for Chelsey.

"It’s a commitment that you not only have to be physically ready, but also have to be self-motivated and really love to run," Coach Glengarry said.
