According to Angela Woodson, Director of Admissions, Greenhill School admission application numbers for the 2010-2011 school year can only be described as "wonderful." "We have seen application numbers go up nicely from where they were last year," Ms. Woodson said.

Such news comes as a pleasant surprise for the Greenhill Admissions staff and the Greenhill community as a whole. "It is great to see that the economic recession did not have a strong negative effect and that the demand is still there," says Ms. Woodson.

Security systems upgraded, adjusted in order to keep students and campus safe PDF Print E-mail

Security has always been an important part of keeping students, faculty, and the campus safe. During the past several weeks there have been several additions to the devices and systems that protect Greenhill.

The biggest upgrade is a new system that has been added to all exterior doors. The system, called Cel Access, allows control over doors, including timed building access and a lockdown feature. The building-access feature allows a limited number of individuals to simultaneously lock all of the exterior doors on campus in a matter of seconds.

The software controlling all the doors logs information about when doors are opened and closed. It also triggers an alarm that sends email messages to the security guard. The alarm is triggered when doors are opened after hours and when doors are open for more than three minutes.

Officer Ralph Price, Director of Security, emphasized that the new system is a way of looking back to investigate a situation that may arise and to keep students safe.

In addition to the upgrades to the door- locking system, there have been two new cameras installed in The Buzz campus store. The cameras were installed because there has been concern that items had been shoplifted.

These cameras were simple additions to the current system that monitor the entrance and exit gates along with the underclassmen locker room. Officer Price emphasized that the camera are not meant to spy on students.

"I am not here to watch these all day. I am not here to be big brother," he said.

These tools have been implemented to be used as "investigative tools" if and when they are needed. According to Officer Price, the cameras should serve as a deterrent, rather than a real method of prevention, and will only be used as a last resort.

When it comes to the locker room and protection of personal property, it is ultimately up to the students to use school-issued locks to secure their belongings.
