From lectures to exhibits, Frank Lopez, Upper School visual arts teacher, has not only kept busy with his work on campus but has also found time to share his knowledge and photography with the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Upper School photography students have excelled this year with 10 students placing in a variety of regional and national photographic competitions and exhibitions.
On Jan. 11-16, senior David Molay participated in Young Arts 2010, sponsored by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA). The NFAA selected 141 students from different disciplines of art; David was one of five students representing photography. The students stayed in Miami for a week of workshops, auditions, and exhibits.
“It was quite an amazing and intense week, and the talent level of all the students was very impressive,” David said.

Frank Lopez, Upper School Visual Arts teacher, has changed the direction of the school’s photography program over the last four years. It now focuses more on the history and artistry of photography, and he encourages students to submit artwork to competitions.
Mr. Lopez teaches all sections of photography and is an adjunct professor at Texas A&M-Commerce where he teaches Alternative Printmaking. As a practicing artist, he will display his work in nine exhibitions throughout this school year.

This past summer, 13 students, chaperoned by Warren Frerichs, Middle and Upper School Chinese teacher, and Frank Lopez, Upper School photography teacher, spent five weeks in China and Korea. Their purpose was to immerse themselves in many different cultures, and photograph every part of their journey.

Lights! Camera! Action! With the addition of a new video production computer lab in the Fine Arts building, Hollywood may have gotten a little closer. The room itself is not a new building, rather what used to be an open air heating conditioning space which was refurbished over the summer to accommodate the expanding film class.
“We keep expanding classes and offerings in Fine Arts,” said Corbin Doyle, Middle and Upper School visual arts teacher. “Film has a history of being a bit homeless. In the early days, we didn’t have a class. We would meet in the Rotunda and move in the seventh or eighth grade pods looking for an open space to watch, plan, and discuss movies.”
A large demand among students for spots in the video production class coupled with an increasing need for space for digital media, the Fine Arts building needed not only additions, yet more importantly rearrangements.
